Trading USA Stocks from the UK
Just a quick update on this.

I have contacted a number of US based brokers and none will let me register with them as I am not a USA residant.

I have contacted a number of UK based brokers and haven't found any that offer a good solution.

For UK shares I think I will stick with IG Index (Spreadbetting) and IG Markets (CFD's) as they have really good trading software (web and mobile). Both have a minumum Market Cap for US shares of $500m which is way too high for most of what I want to trade.

For US shares, I might need to use MF Global. They allow trading of US shares of: Spreadbetting > $100m, CFD's >$10m. However I really don't like the MF Global trading software and they don't have a mobile platform. Plus their customer support has been hit and miss.

Whichever broker I end up using with, they won't have all of the US companies that I want to trade with listed, although will probably add most of them for me (MF Global have added some for me). If anyone here has a list of companies that are commonly traded on here, please let me know! If not, I have already started to compile one.

I'll update this post again soon :-)

Trading USA Stocks from the UK
I am with a few brokers in the UK but none of them let me trade on the smaller USA companies. An e-mail that I got from one broker (IG Index) says:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your email. In order for us to be able to set up and offer a US stock for trading, we require the market cap to be $500 million or greater. I am afraid that the market cap for Netlist, Inc is only $76.55 million, therefore we are unable to offer it for trading.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you know of any UK brokers that will let me trade on USA companies which have a market cap of under $500 million?

Or do you know of any USA brokers that will let me register with them? All the ones I have tried so far will not accept people resident in the UK.

Thanks.

Please introduce yourself here!
I have taken this week off of work to try day-trading - and I have just bought a BOWS Gold subscription.

I'm taking things very slowly on day 1on the UK market - learning the tools, etc.  I mostly follow the NASDAQ so will be concentrating on that this week (plus stocks talked about on the BOWS trading floor). I'm looking forward to it :-)

What happened today? Boom and bust!
I can see from http://finviz.com/ that today started out quite well until around 13:30 then went downhill, but I am not sure why this happened. Please can someone explain?

Thanks :-)

Please introduce yourself here!
Hi all, My name is Paul and I'm 31 years old, from England and I love technology, sports, cooking, cars, photography and lots of other things. I work as a SAP BASIS administrator for a living, but can be found coding sites such as http://www.getmecooking.com in my spare time.

I started trading at the start of 2009, not really knowing what I was doing but I did okay. Right now I am trying to build my portfolio up a bit with some long-term investments as well as having some fun (and hopefully profit) with some short trades.

I am really looking forward to learning from people here! I joined last Friday and have already learned a lot! :-)
